My client needed help and tips on how to best utilise the space in her new rental home in the Zürich area. She has a great sense of style which was a strength when discussing her furniture and colour palette options. This is a south-facing family home with large bay windows on the ground floor and high ceiling on the first floor. There is the added bonus of a full-size basement which is prime space for teenagers – and occasional guests.
My brief was to help on two rooms: the garden room on the ground floor and the basement room.
The Garden Room is to be used more as an adult lounge, making the most of those big bay windows and bring in a hint of Miami x Italy cool design vibes. It needed simple lines, simple furniture but lots of warm textures with oversized rugs, different textiles, soft greys and deep blue colours and indirect light sources to bring warmth and interest to the room.
The Basement Room has to fulfil three functions: game room, office and guest bedroom. The key was to zone the space and give a clear visual identity to each area. It was also important to isolate the bedroom from the rest of the space so I worked on a soft room divider option formed of a Ligne Roset full-height open bookshelf backed with the sheerest cotton curtain to create a softer space on the bedroom side.
